1. What is ICANN?

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is responsible for managing and coordinating the Domain Name System (DNS) to ensure that every address is unique and that all users of the Internet can find all valid addresses. It does this by overseeing the distribution of unique IP addresses and domain names. It also ensures that each domain name maps to the correct IP address. ICANN is also responsible for accrediting the domain name registrars. "Accredit" means to identify and set minimum standards for the performance of registration functions, to recognize persons or entities meeting those standards, and to enter into an accreditation agreement that sets forth the rules and procedures applicable to the provision of Registrar Services.

2. What does it mean to "register" a domain name?

The Internet domain name system (DNS) consists of a directory, organized hierarchically, of all the domain names and their corresponding computers registered to particular companies and persons using the Internet. When you register a domain name, it will be associated with the computer on the Internet you designate during the period the registration is in effect. From that computer, you can create a website which will be accessible to Internet users around the world.

5. My Site is not ready; can I still register my domain name now?

Yes. QualiSpace will register your domain name and keep it for you till the time you are ready to host the site. The day you are ready to host your domain, you will have to contact us by email or telephone and we will setup your domain on our servers. (When required, your domain will be activated within 24 hours, Monday to Saturday only). We will set up your domain on our servers. Not only that, we will create a single web page that indicates that your site is "under construction". We will simply bill you a onetime Rs.499.00 INR setup fee.

6. Can I add more space to my site?

Yes, you can purchase extra space for your website price may vary according to the web package you have.

7. How do I change my domain name?

Once registered, the domain name is unchangeable. You can register another domain name if you wish.

8. How long does it take to register/transfer a domain name?

Merely a few minutes actually however it takes a minimum of 24-48 hours to start reflecting on the Internet as the Domain Name System (DNS) databases are updated only once a day.

9. How many domain names can I register?

You can register as many as you like provided they are available to be booked. In all circumstances you will have to adopt the same process of domain registration, which you were adapting to book a single domain.

10. What if my domain name turns out to be taken?

This is a very real possibility as there are tens of thousands of names being registered EVERY day. Even if it’s available when you sign-up for QualiSpace services in this regard, there may be someone in the process already that wants that domain name. The best bet is to pick a domain name that is simple for customers to remember yet unique enough that no one will possibly think of using it. You may also be able to get a name close to what you want merely by putting - or some other part of your legal business name into your domain name.
